💼 Good Advisors Deserve Better Companies.

Hi everybody,

Wow, and its weekend again! I wanted to touch on making changes...positive changes in IFA career.

Look folks, obviously not every challenging career move is a mistake...sometimes, it's simply incomplete.

Every week we speak with advisors who joined an international wealth management firm believing they'd found the opportunity they'd been searching for. I have to specifically say these firms are usually NOT our clients.

The brochures looked impressive, the interviews sounded convincing, the promises were persuasive...yet months later, many tell us a very different story.

I turned out to be a business model that didn't quite match what they were promised. There were also at times product restrictions that made genuine financial planning difficult, lead generation that never quite materialised and the company culture simply wasn't what they expected.

The irony?

Most of these advisors are highly capable. Their problem wasn't ability, it was the environment.

At Prestige IFA Jobs, we've spent years doing something very few recruiters ever do. We say "NO."

I just don't do the "lets-throw-mud-against-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks" thing...so I CAN say thanks, but no thanks.

It's not because they're necessarily "bad" companies per se, but because they just consistently don't meet the standards we'd expect for advisors who trust us with their careers.

If any of you've ever tried to get a job at my one pristine UAE client called AES International for instance...you'll know what I mean. Most folks who get a call slot at AES, don't make it past the first call. They're just THAT picky...and having worked for them myself back in 2013, I have adopted a similar position in recruiting, with even some well known industry names. We don't work with just everyone, I don't care who they are.

Those of you who know me a bit by know will know I get along with just about everyone, but I won't send anyone anywhere that I wouldn't go myself. I'd rather lose a placement than recommend the wrong employer. Some still choose to follow their own gut against solid advice, and often come back saying, "I should have listened to you."

That's why a few even well-known firms never feature on our job feeds, on on our website OR in this very newsletter going out to about 8000+ of you. You'd think they'd actually CARE?? Ha, you'd be wrong, yes...can you believe it? But it's their loss. I'm not in the convincing business and sometimes less really IS more.

This is also a reason why experienced advisors already working overseas for competitors often come to me quietly when they're ready to make their second or even third move — the move they wish they'd made earlier to begin with.

Perhaps you're one of them? Maybe you're performing well...maybe your income is even acceptable in your eyes, but perhaps you've started asking yourself questions like...

"Is this really the firm I want to build the next five or 10 years of my career with?"

"Am I becoming the advisor I hoped I'd become?"

"Would I choose this company again if I knew then what I know NOW?"

Those questions matter, so do the answers!

Because making decisions can be stressful, IF you go it alone and hoping for the best.

I used to work in HomeLoans in South Africa long before I was an IFA. And like an iFA, I would shop around at banks for the best mortgage deals for my clients. Its all about offerining options and choices to folks.

Look, IFA companies all pay me the same introduction fee, so it's MY job to find you the best options. If its a good fit all round, you're happy...they are happy and I get paid...and well, I like to get paid! I don't do any hit and run business.

If you're beginning to wonder whether there's a better fit for you, we'd be happy to have a confidential conversation.

No pressure, no sales pitch. Not anything necessarily BIGGER, but almost always, simply BETTER.

Lets have an honest discussion about what else exists in today's international wealth management market — and whether your current firm is genuinely the best place for your future. I have that enviable birds eye view, I see and hear things you might NOT, it what I do...and do very well.

After all...the biggest career mistake isn't joining the wrong company, it's staying there long after you've realised it!
